Another unhelpful tutorial. This time it’s featuring Kai, a character from my in-progress graphic novel, btcomics.com . It’s been on hiatus, which is why there isn’t a new page yet, but it’s coming back and I plan to have it up and running again this weekend!
I discovered this ‘style’ largely by accident as I was just experimenting with things. I kind of like how it looks, and I thought I’d share how I came upon it in case anyone finds it useful.
I would like to emphasize, about painting hair: hair is very reflective. And black usually looks nicer when it is not actually 100 percent black. Adding in other colors can make black look more interesting while still being dark enough to be accurate to the character’s hair color. Darker skin works the same way. It’s very reflective! Problem is I’ve never been able to capture it correctly, but since I discovered this technique it’s helping me see what kinds of other colors I can throw in to make black look more interesting. I need a lot of work and practice, of course.
Also I didn’t use refs, I am working really hard to improve how I draw faces without needing a ref.

I’m opening my commissions up once again, hoping to do some better business. I plan on going to school in the next year or two and i really need to make some extra money. I’m going to school for Special effects makeup and hair, and I need to invest in an airbrush to paint latex prosthetics and masks. Roughly, the Brush and compressor will cost me about 250 dollars for a top notch brand, and, well, I need to get that soon so I can start on a portfolio.
I will be drawing waist up commissions. I will also do couples. I draw both Furries and Humans,and trolls. Any fandoms. but I will NOT draw porn of any kind due to the fact i’ve never drawn that stuff before.
Sketches are $3, Lineart is $5, flat color is $10 and Shades is $15.
I will add an extra character for $5.
I will add a simplified background for $3.
This is all in canadian currency.

Wow that is a lot of stuff!!
So I was asked about my background in the Jack frost fanart. I decided to just make a tutorial to hopefully explain as best as I could!!
I did not paint Jack Frost int he tutorial because that was not what I was asked about, but if you guys want a tutorial about how I paint people and foreground images I could do it, just let me know!
